Introducing Authentic Japanese Kakejiku to Travelers Visiting Japan
At Zen Kakejiku, we are looking for guesthouses, ryokan, hotels, cafés, and businesses interested in displaying authentic Japanese hanging scrolls.
Our goal is simple:
To help international visitors experience Japanese culture in a deeper and more meaningful way.
A kakejiku is more than wall decoration.
It reflects the seasons.
Creates a sense of calm.
And carries the spirit of Japanese aesthetics and hospitality that has been passed down for centuries.
We hope to create more places where travelers can naturally encounter this beautiful tradition during their stay in Japan.
Meet the Founder

Reino Tomita
Founder of Zen Kakejiku
Third-Generation Successor of Galleria Reino
Hello, and thank you for visiting.
My name is Reino Tomita, founder of Zen Kakejiku.
I am also the third-generation successor of Galleria Reino, a family-owned art business established in 1942.
For more than 80 years, our company has been involved in art supplies, framing, fine art sales, and gallery operations in Hiroshima and Fukuyama, Japan.
Growing up surrounded by paintings, traditional crafts, and skilled artisans, art was never something extraordinary to me—it was simply part of everyday life.
As I grew older, I began to realize that many of Japan’s most beautiful cultural traditions are still largely unknown outside Japan.
Kakejiku is one of them.
While opportunities to encounter hanging scrolls are decreasing even within Japan, interest in Japanese culture, Zen philosophy, and traditional craftsmanship continues to grow around the world.
I believe the beauty and quiet presence of kakejiku still have an important place in modern life.
A Mother Thinking About the Next Generation
I am also a mother of two daughters.
As both a parent and the successor of a family business, I often ask myself:
"What traditions and values should we pass on to the next generation?"
Culture survives only when people continue to share and preserve it.
Rather than treating kakejiku as something belonging only to the past, I hope to help it find a place in contemporary life.
Zen Kakejiku was created from that belief.
About Galleria Reino

Established on April 1, 1942.
For more than 80 years, Galleria Reino has served the Hiroshima and Fukuyama communities through:
• Art supplies
• Picture framing
• Fine art sales
• Gallery operations
Today, we continue to operate our physical store in Fukuyama, Hiroshima.
Zen Kakejiku was born as a new initiative to introduce Japanese hanging scroll culture to the world.
Why Kakejiku Matters
For centuries, kakejiku have played an important role in Japanese homes, tea rooms, temples, and inns.
They are changed with the seasons, selected to welcome guests, and used to create harmony within a space.
A hanging scroll is not simply decoration.
It is a reflection of Japanese culture, hospitality, and appreciation for beauty.
We hope more travelers will have the opportunity to experience this tradition firsthand.
